One dead in early morning shooting on America Street (victim identified, killer at large)

Update July 19: The Post and Courier has an updated post on the American Street homicide in which Brian Eliot Holmes, an accountant and financial manage who graduated from The Citadel in 2000, was found shot to death in the early morning hours of July 18th.

Police don't have much to say about the case except that the investigation is ongoing and Holmes' killer is still at large.

Update July 18: Authorities have identified the victim of the early morning shooting on American Street as 33-year-old Brian Holmes of North Charleston.

Holmes reportedly died on the scene from a single gunshot wound.

Live 5 News has the update along with raw footage from the scene early today.

First reporting: Police are investigating a shooting that took place around 3 a.m. near 51 American Street in downtown Charleston.

Details are still scarce, but it appears that the victim was shot inside of his or her car and subsequently crashed into a parked car.
