Suspect struck by car while fleeing rape scene

A suspect was clipped by a car while fleeing the scene of a sexual assault against a woman at Ward Avenue near the Charleston Airport.

North Charleston Police reported in an e-mail:
The suspect was struck by a vehicle as he was fleeing the residence. The suspect, Alberto Hernandez-Basaldua, H/M 43yoa of 2410 Alston Ave., was charged with Burglary First Degree, Kidnapping, Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree, and Assault and Battery with the Intent to Kill.

The incident occurred around 11:16 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7.

A more exact location of the crime is not stated to possibly protect the identity of the victim.
