Update November 5th: Doesn't it seem like there's a bank robbery every day in Horry County lately?

As it turns out, it's quite a bit more than the 15 we had last year and it's well on it's way to being more than the 25 that have happened in the past 2 years combined. WPDE has more details about the who and why this is happening in their write-up and the accompanying video package is below.

First Report July 14th, 2011: It was a bad day for Socastee bank employees yesterday.

At around 9 a.m., the First Citizens Bank on Socastee Boulevard was robbed for an undisclosed sum of money. A dye pack did activate in the crook's bag but he hasn't been nabbed just yet. The Sun News has more details about the morning robbery.

Later at 4 p.m. in the afternoon, Horry County State Bank over by Palmetto Pointe Boulevard was knocked over. Horry County Police don't believe the robbers are the same person and are treating the events as two separate incidents. WMBF News has more information on the second event including surveilance footage.

It seems like local banks are getting robbed an awful lot this year. Is it a sign of the economic times?
