Avondale business boom sloshing onto neighbors (update: still unhappy)

Update April16, still woes: It seems the valet parking wasn't enough to counter springtime warmth and the draw of a fresh Mellow Mushroom: complaints are still steady.

And with some 400 dinning seats in the area and 120 legal car spots, the problem is pretty obvious.

I'll point you on over to Live 5 News for a nice vide report on the latest; watch it here.

Update March 21, valets: Still grappling with the issue of parking overflow (and preparing to deal with whatever new parking headache the soon to open Mellow Mushroom will bring,) Avondale leaders are getting proactive.

Several area businesses have teamed up with Coastal Valet Parking to those dining at Triangle Char and Bar, Pearlz Oyster Bar, Voodoo, Al Di La Italian, and Mellow Mushroom. The service will start on Thursday, March 24, at 4 p.m. and will continue Thursdays through Saturdays from 4 to 11, and on Sundays starting at 11 a.m.

First reporting January 13: Business is good in West Ashley's Avondale neighborhood these days, and where there's success and growth and folks going out you'll also find neighborhood chaffing.

And that's just the case as more businesses and customers fill up the shopping district's limited parking and spill into the neighborhoods.

The Post and Courier has a nice rundown of what's up; take a read here.
