Charleston culinary event to feature silent and live auctions benefitting March of Dimes research
Terry Haas, Charleston resident and HGTV host on the popular national television show “Designed To Sell,” announced today the March of Dimes South Carolina Chapter has named her chair for the 2012 Signature Chefs Auction to take place in the fall of 2012.This gala will feature the culinary expertise of local Charleston chefs and raise funds for March of Dimes research through live and silent auctions.
“Honored doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about being given this wonderful opportunity,” said Haas. “I hope my participation as chairfor this event will help raise awareness for this organization and more importantly raise money for the continual March of Dimes research.”
During the cocktail reception guests will feast on local Charleston chefs’ signature dishes and may bid on various silent auction packages. The following live auction will feature travel, entertainment and unique dining packages donated by participating restaurants and sponsors to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Money raised at this event will be filtered into research to help prevent, reduce, and find causes and cures for infant death and birth defects in the South Carolina region.
“Premature birth affects one in six babies, and in half of these cases there is no known cause. These statistics make me feel grateful to have two healthy babies, but it extremely saddens me to know that others are suffering.” said Haas. “March of Dimes research is so crucial for the health of our babies; with their work, we can hope to find the cause and a cure, as well as help those with the lasting health consequences of premature birth.”
The South Carolina March of Dimes invested 1.5 million dollars in program services for research grants and local community services in 2010. These grants enabled the March of Dimes to further research and prevent infant death and birth defects, reduce South Carolina’s increasing premature birth rate, and help educate parents about prenatal care and having healthy babies.
