The first weekend of October is starting off right with two beer festivals and lots of fall fashion events.

Let's start off with the serious business first. Beer. And lots of it.

Saturday is the day of battling beer festivals. The Joseph P. Riley Jr. Stadium will be hosting the seventh annual Festival of Beers from 7 to 10 p.m. There will be over 100ifferent varieties of beer that are sure to please beer enthusiasts the state over. Not feeling the scene at The Joe? Head over to Gene Haufbrau's on Saturday or Sunday for their two-day Oktoberfest celebration. In addition to the 150 beers, but they’ll be offering up music, and a dual sausage eating and beer wench contest.

In between or after nursing your hangovers, be sure to check out some fall fashion. Friday night at the Terrace Theater on James Island is the premier of the documentary on fashion maven and editor of American Vogue, Anna Wintour. Charleston Magazine will be rolling out the red carpet and filling you up on champagne while you indulge in all things high fashion. Enjoy some fashion on the river at Saturday's Dockside Fashion Show featuring local fashion designers Sarah Maxwell, Troubadour and Rachel Gordon.

In the mood for something more active? There are two runs/walks that are both benefitting some great Lowcountry causes. Register for the Isle Of Palms Connector Run and Walk for the Child 10k and 5k taking place on Saturday morning. The race’s proceeds will be going to support the local prevention of child abuse. If you want something a little less daunting, try the Fido's Frolic on Folly Beach. Walkers are encouraged to bring their pooches out to the Folly Beach Fishing Pier for the event to raise money for Pet Helpers.

Make your Sunday Funday a little more fiery this weekend at the Latin American Festival taking place at North Charleston’s Wannamaker County Park. The festival will have live music, cultural activities and education, fabulous food vendors and more.
