The Spa at Charleston Place kicks off Melanoma Awareness Initiative May 2

On Monday, May 2nd, the Spa at Charleston Place and the Medical University of South Carolina will launch their fourth annual ‘I Will Reflect’ Melanoma Awareness Initiative, spotlighting the seriousness of the disease while promoting preventive education and safe sun practices.

The campaign kick-off party will be held at the Spa at Charleston Place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and will feature delicious hors-d’oeuvres, cocktails and a silent auction. The event is free, but there is a suggested donation of $10. Proceeds from the evening will be donated to the Medical University of South Carolina Fund and used for skin cancer research.

“This year our goal is to inundate Charleston with the message to ‘Get Screened!,’ arming residents with useful information about skin cancer in order to promote healthy sun habits and the importance of annual full-body mole checks,” said Annette Sandford-Lopez, Spa Director at The Spa at Charleston Place.

The ‘I Will Reflect’ campaign will continue through August, and the Spa at Charleston Place will host a variety of special events, speaking engagements, beach sweeps and other community efforts in conjunction with partnering organizations such as Little Black Book (For Every Busy Woman), MDSolarSciences sun products, Cos Bar, Firefly Distillery and others. The Spa invites the public to “reflect” on the dangers of melanoma and become educated on ways to prevent sun-related skin damage, including annual full-body screenings and safe sun habits. Photosensitive ‘I Will Reflect’ wristbands which change color when exposed to harmful UV rays serve as a reminder to protect yourself from the sun and will be available for purchase throughout the campaign.

Spa clients can also receive 25% off rejuvenating facial treatments, accompanied by a complimentary skin consultation and safe sun tips for the skin. During May, also Melanoma Awareness Month, the Spa will donate 10% of ‘I Will Reflect’ spa facial treatments to the MUSC Fund.

The ‘I Will Reflect’ initiative is part of a worldwide cause founded by SpaFinder, Inc. in 2007. Gaining momentum around the globe, the initiative seeks to educate the public about melanoma detection and prevention. The campaign encourages residents to pledge ‘I Will Reflect’ and join the movement to help reduce the impact of melanoma, which is the most serious, often life-threatening, form of skin cancer.

This year the campaign invites Charleston residents to ‘reflect’ through a series of events, merchandise, spa services, testimonials, tips and more, including:

  • Fashion for Prevention: The Spa will host a ‘I Will Reflect’ cocktail party and swimwear fashion show featuring local designers and select local retailers on May 2nd from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The event is free, but there is a suggested donation of $10.
  • Accessorize for a Cause: Purchase chic bracelets that change color from white to purple when exposed to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. Bracelets feature a metal faceplate engraved with the motto, ‘I Will Reflect,’ and are available for $5 each at The Spa, MUSC Dermatology Department and select local retailers. Proceeds from ‘I Will Reflect’ facial treatments will benefit MUSC Foundation’s Department of Dermatology.
  •  Education Never Felt So Good: Treat yourself to one of The Spa’s ‘I Will Reflect’ treatments and receive a complimentary skin consultation and sun safety tips from a therapist. Clients receive 25% off a treatment when wearing ‘I Will Reflect’ bracelets, and The Spa will donate 10% of proceeds to fund skin cancer research at MUSC.
  • Keep Up With the Campaign: Follow the ‘I Will Reflect’ initiative on Twitter @CharlestonPLSpa to receive tweets offering skin cancer prevention tips and advice during May. Very interesting especially

Very interesting especially because it comes from a spa center, a very responsible spa center for that matter. In a modern conscious society this kind of business should be rewarded. One can find similar initiatives on this strong spas dealer ct resource as well. The education of people on their prevention behavior could have a major impact of their choices, some of the spa products could change as well.
