Charleston unites to help underfunded school teachers

On Sunday, May 1st, from 2 to 5 p.m. the Teachers’ Supply Closet will unite with four South of Broad homeowners, local musicians and area businesses to host the Teachers’ Supply Closet’s second annual Spring Social fundraiser

The Spring Social is an annual fundraiser which aims to raise money for the purchase of school supplies for teachers and their students in the tri-county area in schools that have at least 90 percent of students on the free or reduced meal program. The charity’s mission is end the trend of teachers having to spend money out of their own pockets to buy school supplies for their students.

Guests who attend the Spring Social will be invited to tour the homes and gardens of four historic South of Broad residences that will be announced on their Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/TeachersSupplyCloset, over the next few weeks.  Each home will be themed with a style of music (bluegrass, classical, jazz) and local restaurants will make dishes to compliment the music. 

In addition to the food pairing, local bartenders will create signature Ketel One or La Bubbly cocktails for each house inspired by the genre of music, which will be revealed at Social on Monday April 18that 6pm during the Spring Social mixology competition. 

General admission tickets to the Spring Social are $50 and are available online athttp://springsocial.org. Guests may also receive VIP tickets for donations of $100 or more, and will be invited to the VIP/Sponsor party following the Spring Social and will be held at Gage Hall, beginning at 5:30pm.  Tickets to the mixology competition are $10 and include sampling of cocktails and passed hors devours.
