Survey: Charleston is nation's friendliest city, but far from most hopping

Image by Flickr user Bill in Ash Vegas A sign friendliness and pleasantness but not a happening night life. Shocking, I know.

Charleston has been ranked number one in friendliness by some 600,000 "opinionated travelers" who submitted their opinions to build the America's Favorite Cities guide by Travel + Leisure. Here's a bit about what the survey said about Charleston:

Charlestonians are America's friendliest people. The city got second-place rankings for its noteworthy neighborhoods, vintage stores, flea markets, and peace and quiet. Not surprisingly, many travelers found the club scene (No. 24) disappointing.

I pretty well agree with the group on this one. Hop over to Travel + Leisure for the full results. You can also vote to pick the "America's Favorite City". If you're wondering why Savannah didn't make the list, survey responders were asked pick from a list of 25 cities, of which Savannah wasn't one. Hardly scientific, we know.
