Slow Food Charleston and Whole Foods Market present "Vanishing of the Bees," the inaugural film of their educational film series this year.

The film will be shown at the Calhoun Street Library Auditorium (map) on Saturday, May 14th, from 3:45 until 5:45 p.m. This event is free to the public.

Vanishing of the Bees explores the myestery surrounding the disappearance of honeybees over recent years as well as the effects that the bees' disappearance can (and most likely will) have on us.

After the film screening, the audience is invited to a reception at Tristan (10 Linguard Street) for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres featuring dishes created with local honeys. The reception costs $10 per person.

Interested in helping the honeybee cause? Slow Food's Youth Community Action Club will be at Whole Foods Market in Mount Pleasant (map) collecting signatures for a petition asking the EPA to investigate whether pesticides are the underlying cause of the honeybees' disappearance. Swing by Whole Foods and sign the petition on May 7th or May 14th.
