A Dr. MLK Jr. tribute concert by the CSO Gospel Choir and Spiritual Ensemble

Aiming to bring the civil rights leader’s legacy to life through music, imagery and narration, the CSO Gospel Choir and CSO Spiritual Ensemble will host "This Little Light of Mine, I’m Gonna Let It Shine: A Martin Luther King,Jr. Tribute Performance".

The event is slated for Saturday, January 19, at 7 p.m. at Royal Missionary Baptist Church, 4761 Luella Avenue in North Charleston and is hosted in collaboration with the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department.

The performance is free and open to the public. An entry ticket is required; free will donations accepted.

Directed by David A. Richardson, the two choirs will commemorate Dr. King’s civil rights legacy in a moving musical and visual performance featuring gospel and spirituals woven together with narration provided by Dr. Karen Chandler of the College of Charleston and historical images of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement.

“We are excited to partner with the City of North Charleston again this year and bring both our choirs together as we pause to honor Dr. King’s extraordinary contribution to civil rights and economic equality. The event will be the perfect way for our community to remind ourselves of Dr. King’s wisdom, sacrifice and hope,” says Lee Pringle, President and Founder of the two choirs and executive producer of the event.

“Conducting this musical event is a career highlight for me; I look forward to showcasing moving selections carefully chosen to tell Dr. King’s extraordinary, epic story,” says David A. Richardson, Guest Conductor.
