September is right around the corner and you what that means don't you?

Yep that's right, a slight reprieve from the obscenely hot weather, or at least reprieve enough to fire up the smokers and cook up some BBQ. The Lowcountry BBQ event calendar resembles me after eating at one of our many fine BBQ joints -- busting at the seams!

So, here you go my fellow friends of 'cue: A quick run-down on what's happening in September. -- And if you think September is busy, just wait until you see October!

Don't forget that you can keep up with these and other area events on LowcountryBBQ.org, your resource for finding the best BBQ joints in the Lowcountry -- we only feature the best! We're a social bunch too, so please join us at one of our "meatups" to experience BBQ in the Charleston area.

Lowcountry BBQ Meatup at Jim N' Nicks BBQ

September 4 at 7 p.m.; Jim N' Nicks BBQ, 288 King Street, Charleston (map / website)

Join us as we kick off the month of September with our 10th "meatup" at the popular Jim N' Nicks down on Kings Street. We'll have a big table reserved and will expect a good turn out since this is on everyone's list of favorite BBQ joints. Mmm, I can taste those corn bread muffins already!

Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival

September 4-5; Myrtle Beach (website)

Taking place at the former Air Force base facilities, known as Valor Park, this two day event will not only feature a BBQ competition (sanctioned by South Carolina Barbeque Association and the Kansas City Barbeque Society) but will also have live music, boat rides on the lake, car shows, craft vendors, and an eating contest.

Boone Hall BBQ Championship and Bluegrass Festival

September 6; Boone Hall Plantation, 1235 Long Point Road, Mount Pleasant (map / website)

This annual event is a perfect way to cap off Labor Day Weekend! This year Ricky Skaggs and his Kentucky Thunder band will be featured performers, in addition to The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Jimmy Stone and The Southland Boys, and the local favorite Homeboy Reunion.

The Balkans of Barbeque: Pit-cooked Meat in the Carolinas

September 10 at 7 p.m.; Bond Hall, Room #165, The Citadel, Charleston (more info)

Come and hear John Shelton Reed, the author of Holy Smoke: The Big Book of North Carolina Barbecue speak on Carolina BBQ (this is going to be good!). Part of the Fall 2009 Fulghum Lecture Series.

14th Annual Uniquely Union Invitational

September 11-12; Union (more info)

South Carolina The Best of the Best Invitational Cook-Off

September 11-12; Dorchester Shrine Club, 2150 Beech Hill Road, Summerville (map / website

This event should not be missed, since only the winning SCBA event teams are invited (hence the title) which means there will be some amazing BBQ! Friday 6-8pm you can sample "anything but pork" dishes and Saturday will have whole hog, pork butts, and an open division.

Greenway Barbeque and Bluegrass

Lowcountry BBQ Meatup @ Willie Jewell's

September 25; Willie Jewell's Old School BBQ, 8983 University Blvd., Unit 106, North Charleston (map / website)

Yes, that's right, we're having TWO meatups in September 'cause that's how we roll. Not to mention, Willie Jewell's just opened up in town and they have some mighty tastey (and smokey) pulled pork. And something about a (hot) sauce bar, but you'll have to join us for more on that.

Berkeley BBQ Cook-Off

September 25-26; Moncks Corner
