Sullivan's Island Lighthouse open house on May 1
Image by Flickr user The Suss-Man (Mike) Come see this lighthouse up close and personal.
The National Park Service will hold an open house at the Charleston Light (that's the real name of the Sullivan's Island Lighthouse) on Saturday, May 1, from 1 to 5 p.m.
The lighthouse was commissioned in 1962 as the last major lighthouse to be built in the United States. It replaced the Morris Island Lighthouse, which was built in 1876.
As usual, while you'll be able to enter the base of the lighthouse, you won't be able to ascend the tower. Bummer, I know. The grounds, quarters cupola, and boat house will also be open to the public.
The lighthouse is at 1815 I'On Avenue on Sullivan's Island.
