The College of Charleston School of the Arts will be presenting the work of Music Theory/Composition student, Corey Webb, in his original arrangements of folk music that blends modern technology, science fiction, catchy songs, and classical instruments.

The evening, benefiting College of Charleston Composers Foundation, will be held at the Recital Hall in the Simons Center for the Arts on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 8 p.m.

Corey Webb, under the guidance of Dr. Edward Hart from the School of the Arts has transcribed and arranged eleven contemporary folk songs synthesizing classical instruments and modern technology. The title Let the Giant in Peace comes from a new original called One Gaze, which is the platform of this unique concert. The song takes the perspective of a singer from the future; he lives in an idealist society that has "seen further by standing on the shoulders of giants" and shed all human triviality. Moreover, each song symbolizes a weighty theme from our human history to "grow the giant" until finally the secret ending is revealed...and leaves you weeping for days.

The performance includes musicians from the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and the College featuring piano, cello, French horn, a synthesizer, drums, guitar, and vocals.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and will be available at the door. If you want to get your ahead of time, head to Blue Bicycle Books at 420 King Street.
