Dark comedy 'The Altruists' hits the Footlight's LateNight stage

The Footlight Players are proud to announce that the opening night of 'The Altruists' has arrived, and the first performance will take place tomorrow, February 18th at 9 p.m.

Here's a blurb about the play from The Footlight Players' press release:

"The Altruists" is an outrageously funny satire that revolves around a dedicated, if disorganized and demented, group of young radicals. These are the kids who protest. They protest arts funding and arms funding. They protest school cutbacks and AIDS cutbacks. They march for gay rights and Women Against Drunk Drivers. But their morality is put to the test one day when Sydney, a shallow, anorexic soap-opera actress, fires a gun into the hulking body of her sleeping boyfriend. Terrified, she looks to her brother, Ronald, the center of this merry band of radicals, and the rest of her hypocritical friends for help. Their solution to the situation is an entertaining and ironic betrayal of their ideals and morals. The Altruists contains mature content and adult language, and is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18.

Dottie Ashley has penned a nice preview of the dark comedy for The Post and Courier that hypes the new addition to the LateNight at the Footlight series created to attract a younger, hipper audience to the theater.

Tickets for The Altruists are available online and range from $10.25 to $15.25 depending on the evening.
