The City of Charleston's "Happy New Year Charleston": This community celebration offers a non-alcoholic and family-oriented alternative program to celebrate the New Year in Charleston. This city wide, admission-free program has something wonderful for everyone: comedy, African dancing, many forms of music including classical, gospel and jazz, children’s activities and so much more. A roundup to end all roundups: The Charleston City Paper has an intimidating listing of what tons of bars and clubs are doing. Many are your standard fare, like The Griffon which is doing a champagne toast at midnight. Still there are a few interesting ones, like Club Pantheon, who is doing a $5,000 cash drop at midnight. Go hunting.

Just don't drink too much. Not only should you think of your health, but you don't want to miss one of the polar bear swims, now do you?
