Free fun in (and out of) the summer sun this week

We all like free stuff, so here's some awesome and fun things you can do in the area--that won't cause a hurtin' on your wallet.

Want to be more green at home? Come to the Home Energy Conservation Workshop tonight at 75 Calhoun St. to learn more about simple things you can do around your house to have a big impact on conserving energy.

If you're in the mood to chill and listen to some soul-shaking blues, come out to Art's Bar and Grill at 10 p.m. on Wednesday to see Sarah Cole and the Hawkes start a very cool weekly tradition.

Thursday's chocked full of stellar (and free) events. Check out a screening of the classic cult comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy at Movies on the Green. And if you're more interested in exploring your creative side on Thursday, there are plenty of options for that, too, including the Third Thursday Poetry Slam hosted by Outlaw Poets at Kudu Coffeehouse.

Further delve into your artistic side at the opening reception of the With.In art show at Innovative Interiors at 6 p.m. on Friday, where you can check out works from a variety of artists including Susan Gregaory, Betsey Carter, and Florenzo Berardozzi.

This weekend isn't sparse on free activities, either. On Saturday, head to the Read All About It festival at Read Brothers Stereo and Fabrics for a slip 'n' slide, free pizza from D'Allesandros, live music, local arts, stand-up comedy, and more. Then, on Sunday, celebrate Father's Day by bringing Dad to an indie movie screening by Guerrilla Cinema at the Tin Roof.

Not enough free stuff to quench your thirst? Head over to Charleston City Paper's Freeloaders post for more rockin' free things to do this week.
