While this Sunday is the somber 10th anniversary of 9/11, it's also the second Sunday of the month and the King Street shopping district will once again be closed all vehicular traffic during this month's 2nd Sunday on King Street.

From 1 to 5 p.m. King Street will be closed off for the wildly popular and well attended event that highlights some of the area's best shopping, dining and people watching, followed by a special City of Charleston 10-year anniversary commemoration concert in remembrance of September 11.

The free concert takes place at Marion Square from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The even is being done in partnership with Operation R&R, a non-profit organization designed to provide service men and women an opportunity to reconnect with their spouses and children on a vacation when they return from deployments Iraq and Afghanistan.

Reflective and patriotic music will be performed by the Charleston Community Band, Charleston Men's Chorus, Charleston Symphony Orchestra Chorus, College of Charleston, the Citadel and others. The event will honor and remember our first responders, military service men and women and those who perished in all of the events on September 11, 2001. Attendees should bring blankets or folding chairs for seating on the lawn at Marion Square. Free parking is available at the Gaillard Parking Garage on Calhoun Street.

And don't forget about the BBQ by Pigtails Brands sauces and Bull Street Gourmet happening at 120 King Street.
