Republican Tim Scott, the first African American to represent South Carolina in the United States Congress since the post Civil War Reconstruction period, will lead the Mount Pleasant Christmas Parade this year.

The parade is scheduled for Sunday, December 12, and is expected to have more than 100 floats come down Coleman Boulevard. The tree lighting and fireworks display will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Moultrie Middle School, followed by the parade at 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of Coleman Boulevard and Pelzer Drive, then continues past Shem Creek to conclude at the Sea Island Shopping Center around 7:15 p.m.

Past Mount Pleasant grand marshals include Rep. Henry Brown, Major General Abraham J. Turner, and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Major General James E. Livingston.

Scott won the South Carolina's 1st congressional district general election on Nov. 2, with 65% of the vote.
