Update November 23, 2011: Today is the last day for online registration.

You can do race day registrations but obviously event organizers prefer you register online for the Grand Strand Turkey Trot. TheDigitel Myrtle Beach will be at the event taking photos and video.

First Report: The Grand Strand Turkey Trot is the first event of the points-based Myrtle Beach Race Series and a great way to build a calorie deficit before you have your Thanksgiving meal.

This may be the first race of the series, but it's not the first Turkey Trot. This will be the 5th year for the Thanksgiving day run and it has become a regular tradition for both locals and visitors to the Grand Strand. As with all Myrtle Beach Race Series events, this race has a charitable benefactor of The Arthritis Foundation.

Organizers describe the course as a "very flat and fast, out and back course." The interesting twist is the last mile is around the large lake trail in front of Market Common. You can see the full course layout in our dynamic map below. The Myrtle Beach Race Series, in partnership with Active Course Fitness, offers training tips on their Facebook page.

This event offers a 1 mile that starts at 8:30 a.m., the 8K and 5K start at 9 a.m., and the "Tot trot" for the kiddies begins at 10:15 a.m. Registration is now open with the online registration deadline on November 23rd and the mail-in registration closing on November 17th.
