Safe Routes to School is a growing movement across the US that brings together parents, schools, and community leaders to encourage students, including those with disabilities, to walk and bike to school.

This Wednesday, March 7, schools across the state are encouraging students to walk to and/or from school. Each school is in charge of setting up its own safety program for this initiative and is encouraged to educate participants on the benefits of walking and biking which include:

  • Enhanced health from increased physical activity
  • Improved air quality due to reduced automobile emissions in your school zone
  • Safer streets due to less traffic congestion
