For this week's Rare Beer Tuesday, the Charleston Beer Exchange boys are throwing Buzz Bomb Ale from Brooklyn Brewery on the growler station at 5 p.m.
Buzz Bomb is the latest addition to Brooklyn's Brewaster's Reserve series, a line of unrelated but extra-special beers from the NYC brewery. The ever-informative CBX blog notes that it's brewed with wildflower honey, and offers up this piece of the commercial description:
In Brooklyn Buzz Bomb, the honey takes center stage, making up a full 25% of the fermentable sugar. We added the honey to the kettle along with a gentle hopping and a lilt of orange peel. Is the beer sweet? Actually, not at all - honey is quite fermentable and our Belgian ale yeast is very hungry. Brooklyn Buzz Bomb has a bright gold color and a spicy floral aroma showing distinctive honey notes. The palate is light, crisp, and very dry, showing a zing of acidity and a quick burst of fruit. Complex floral, honey and spice flavors linger in the bone-dry finish.
This puppy is 8% ABV, gets a B+ from BeerAdvocate, and an 80 from Ratebeer. As is often the case, it's only available on draft and production was limited, so get a move on.
The Charleston Beer Exchange keeps it real at 14 Exchange Street downtown.
