This week in CBX: New dogs, old tricks

The Charleston Beer Exchange boys are holding two growler events this week, sure to wet your craft beer whistle.

Good ol' Rare Beer Tuesday will be in full effect at 5 p.m. as always. Akron, Ohio's Thirsty Dog Brewing has been in our market for a while, delighting beer-o's with delicious brews wrapped in clever canine labels. Their Bourbon Barrel-aged Wee Heavy (9.7% ABV, XX, XX) has never even made it to South Carolina since its debut in 2011, however . . . until now. Get in on the ground floor with this scotch ale. Based on the handful of reviews out there, I smell a winner.

Next up, CBX continues their annual tradition of making it easy on your wallet to stock up on proper beer for Super Bowl Sunday. Starting Friday, growler fills of Sweetwater IPA (6.3% ABV, 91, 97) will be available for $6.99. This beer is a famously great value, possessing a plethora of fresh grapefruit aroma and a hint of sweetness to balance the bitter. At this price, you shouldn't even have to think about it.

Charleston Beer Exhcange can be found at 14 Exchange Street downtown.
