On Tuesday, December 1, 5% of whatever is sold at Whole Foods in Mount Pleasant will go towards Slow Food Charleston.

What is Slow Food Charleston? It's a group that's all about connecting folks to the slower, more traditional aspects of food. Out is fast food and in are collards.

You can learn more about their mission of the local Slow Food Web site.

Here's details from the Whole Foods Web site:

Four times a year, Whole Foods Market in Mt. Pleasant donates 5% of a specific day's net sales to a selected local charity.

Slow Food Charleston will be the featured non-profit organization today. Slow Food Charleston will staff an information table inside the store from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and will have materials to promote Slow Food USA's Time for Lunch campaign. Slow Food volunteers will have a lunch tray coloring project available for children to send to legislators to advocate for healthy school lunches in local public schools, as well as an interactive Slow Food/Fast Food display board game and a banana mascot handing out bananas as an example of a healthy snack food.

Whole Foods is at 923 Houston Northcutt Boulevard in Mount Pleasant. (843) 971-7240.
