Charleston Parks Conservancy hopes to make gardeners out of everyone with their Help for the Home Gardener Series of classes.
There are four classes in the series, all being taught by professional horticulturist and Convervancy Executive Director Jim Martin. If you sign up for all four classes, you get a discounted rate of $110--or you can sign up for individual classes.
Here's some quick info about each of the classes:
- Pruning Basics for Beginners: Saturday, February 25th, from 9 a.m. until noon, at 804 Meeting Street. Cost: $35.
- Vegetable Gardening for Beginners in the South: Saturday, March 3rd, from 9 a.m. until noon, at Martin’s home (address provided upon registration). Cost: $35.
- Grow Your Own Fruit and Berries – Basics for Beginners: Saturday, March 17th, from 9 a.m. until noon, at Sea Island Savory Herbs, 5920 Chisolm Road on Johns Island. Cost: $35.
- Growing Native Plants in Your Lowcountry Gardens: Saturday, March 24th, from 9 a.m. until noon, at 804 Meeting Street. Cost: $35.
If you're interested in composting, also feel free to check out the Convervancy's Composting Tricks and Techniques class on Sunday, February 26th, from 1 until 3 p.m., at Martin’s edible garden on James Island. Cost: $35.
And that's not all! Starting in April, a three-part garden design class will take place. The Step-by-Step Garden Design: Basics for Beginners class will occur on Tuesday, April 3rd, from 6 until 8 p.m. Additional classes are scheduled for April 10th and April 17th. Cost: $70.
