NFL Hall of Famer Lynn Swann and Roper St. Francis Healthcare urologists will host an educational and light-hearted evening on Thursday, January 26th, as part of the national Know Your Stats campaign. The evening will highlight the importance of knowing the risks for prostate cancer and will be held at the Charleston Marriott.

Swann, a wide receiver with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1974-1982, travels the country as a sports host, reporter and analyst and recently joined the Foundation of the American Urological Association’s Know Your Stats campaign.

The evening includes an exclusive cocktail reception with Swann beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by the main event at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served, followed by the program, which will include prostate cancer specialists and Swann’s main remarks.

“This will be a refreshing evening – a fun way to educate men on the importance of knowing their prostate risk,” said John Britton, MD and visionary of the event. “It’s a difficult topic but when you throw it in with football, you’ve got their attention. We hope to bring the same passion for sports to men’s health.”

Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer affecting men in the U.S., but it is the most treatable when caught early. The Know Your Stats campaign is based on an established prostate-specific antigen (PSA) score taken during a screening. This baseline can help doctors better interpret future PSA scores. “Men are encouraged to get screened beginning at age 40,” said Dr. Britton.

Reservations for the cocktail reception are available for $100, which includes the main program and dinner. The reservation cost for the dinner and program is $35. To make a reservation, or for more information, call (843) 402-2273.
