Mount Pleasant's Waterfront Park opening today, July 3

Update July 3: Operating under the mantra of "why do one, when you can do two," today The Post and Courier has a published a lengthier preview of the park and an editorial.

First reporting:

Come on over on July 3rd to the 5th to the site of the old bridge to enjoy Charleston's newest park during the opening ceremonies for the Mount Pleasant Pier and Waterfront Memorial Park.

The $14 million park is a joint effort of the Charleston County County Park and Recreation Commission and the Town of Mount Pleasant.

- Park Dedication
8:00 p.m
- The East Coast Party Band on the pier
- The Charleston Community Band on the lawn
- Nick Collins Accoustic

Free admission, Free entertainment, Free parking all weekend, Free children activities, Refreshments available for purchase, and Shuttle available from College of Charleston Athletic Complex.

SUNDAY, JULY 5, 2009
2:00 p.m.
Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Pavilion Dedication
Basketmaking demonstrations, African fabric art and performances by We Be Brethren

6:30 p.m.
War Memorial Dedication and Unveiling
Reenactment groups & USMC Band
