2012 Can-Am Days: The Canadians are coming, eh?

"O Canada, we stand on guard for thee."

Love it or hate it, Can-Am week is coming up quickly. Can-Am week starts on Saturday, March 10 and continues until Sunday, March 18, 2012.

Those who work in restaurants might have some complaints but this tradition has been going on for 51 years. Back when Can-Am week first started in 1961 it was called Canada Days. In 1963 the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce renamed the annual snowbird welcome-fest to Canadian-American Days in 1963.

Can-Am Days draws around 100,000 Canadian visitors. Brad Dean, MBACC president and CEO says, "Can-Am Days celebrates our snowbird visitors, who escape the cold and snow for the moderate climate and wealth of attractions in the Myrtle Beach area." Dean went on to say, "Many of these visitors have been traveling to our destination for decades, and we strive to create new memories for each generation with community festivals and events.”
