North Strand Helping Hand's Children's Christmas Party tonight

Tonight, December 12, is North Strand Helping Hand's Christmas party for children who might not receive any gifts at all this time of year.

Held at the Ocean Creek Resort in Barefoot Landing, we had the chance to chat with the President of North Stand Helping Hand, Sam Jones, and he filled us in on what the event and Helping Hand is all about.

"Helping Hand works with the schools and we get names of the children," Sam shares, "we have an anonymous sponsor who has been sponsoring it for 16 years." Mr. Jones explained that each child gets one gift which has been donated by members of Helping Hand, local churches, such as Barefoot Church in North Myrtle Beach, and everyday people who feel the need and understand the power of giving, not only this time of year but throughout.

Besides this seasonal show of generosity, North Strand Helping Hands gives all year long.

North Strand Helping Hand is a United Way agency that serves as an emergency aid organization, which responds to the needs of the less fortunate and homeless in our community. We provide assistance with the essentials of life:  food, prescription drugs, bus tickets, utility bills, used clothing and furniture.  We dedicate ourselves to work in partnership with other organizations to improve the quality of life for the underprivileged.

There will be dozens of volunteers helping this evening, as well as teachers from both North Myrtle Beach Primary and Daisy Elementary of Loris. The teachers are there to not only volunteer but to also support some of their very own students. Even Santa will make a special appearance to hand out gifts and talk to all the good little girls and boys

I attended last year's NSHH Christmas Party and it really was wonderful seeing, first-hand, those kids' faces light up when peeling back the wrapping paper and seeing what Santa brought.  It was worth every second of time to those volunteers and to us.

If you would like to give back this holiday season and beyond please check out Helping Hands and help them out however you can; because really, you never know when you might be the one in need.
