Stamp Out Hunger -- the nation's largest annual single-day food drive -- will happen on Saturday, May 9th. To partake all you need do is set the non-perishable food on your doorstep.

Your letter carrier will pick up food from your front porch, load it into their vehicle, and take it back to the post office. Where volunteers will help unload the vehicles quickly, so the carriers can get back out to deliver mail and pick up more food. -- If you want to help unload, United Way has details.

Last year the event collected 73 million pounds of food from across the nation. Locally the hope is to collect 100,000 pounds of food in coastal South Carolina.

To partake this year, put bags filled with nonperishable food items like canned meats and fish, canned soup, juice, pasta, vegetables, cereal and rice next to your mailbox on Saturday, May 9th. Just don't include out-of-date items or ones in glass containers.
