Social Media 101 series starts this week

Social media (sites and services like Facebook and Twitter) has crossed the chasm from casual time-waster to essential business tool. With services changing and new ones appearing regularly, local non-profit Hands-On Networking (HONMB) wants to help you make sense of it all.

Starting this week on Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 10 a.m. until noon at Fresh Brewed Coffee House,  the first of the series begins with the basics of Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. You can register to attend online.

For whatever reasons, the social media consulting and marketing business has attracted a lot of smarmy people. Many claim to be experts and want to sell you big audiences with "x more followers" and "n more likes." Or even worse, they want you to pay them to manage all of your social media on your behalf. There's a total disregard for the quality of that audience and the level of engagement required to get an actual positive return on your social media presence.

These Social Media 101 workshops are hosted by Dorien Morin-van Dam of More In Media. I've personally seen Dorien present a couple times including as a guest speaker at TheDigitel Social Media Workshop and I'm pleased to say she "gets it." You can expect straight-forward practical advice from Dorien that you can apply to your business right away.

The workshop series has been planned to run into April 2013 and covers everything from the basics all the way to effective and efficient engagement.
