Celebrate National Trails Day at MBSP looking for sea turtle activity

On Saturday, June 2, 2012, the Myrtle Beach State Park will celebration National Trails Day with a trek on the beach at sunrise, looking for signs of sea turtle nesting activity.

The program is free with park admission and participants are asked to meet at the fishing pier at 6 a.m. sharp.  Sea turtles typically emerge from the ocean during the overnight hours to build nests and lay eggs, leaving a trail from and back to the sea.  Rangers track these nests over the season and, when necessary, help the babies back into the ocean once they've hatched.

If you're interested in learning more, check out the Myrtle Beach State Park site.  If you're unable to make it on Saturday, this program runs every Friday from June 5 through September 1, 2012.  You can see a full list of their summer programs here.
