Update January 10: More than 600 people gathered outside of city hall yesterday to witness the 10th consecutive (and final) swearing in of Charleston's Mayor Joseph P. Riley.
During his speech, Riley promised the next four years would be the most successful in Charleston's history. He also addressed the importance of two major, ongoing projects that have drawn many a naysayer in the Lowcountry: the construction of the new cruise terminal and the completion of I-526.

First reporting: With near certainty that the 10th term for Charleston Mayor Joe Riley will be his final, the countdown begins today as Riley and six council members are due to be sworn in on January 9 at noon.
The public inauguration and swearing–in will take place in front of Charleston City Hall at Broad and Meeting streets — note that Broad Street will be closed from Meeting to Church beginning at 9:30 a.m.
A reception for the public will be held afterward in Washington Square next to city hall.
