James Island holding critical I-526 meeting

On Tuesday night, March 3, it was standing room only in James Island's Town Hall, some 75 people had turned out in opposition of the proposed I-526 extension.

So, to ensure all interested parties have a chance to express their opinion, the council will hold another public hearing on Tuesday, April 7, at 7 p.m.

The decision to be made by town council has been lauded as the make-or-break moment on the highly contested project.

If you're somehow unaware, for years the plan has been to continue I-526 from West Ashley, over Johns Island, and onto James Island. But many island residents have been protesting saying the road would bring unnecessary sprawl to the island. Others say it is vitally needed.

If you are interested in attending the hearing, James Island Town Hall is located at 1238 1/2 Camp Rd.
