Battery beat Regals, advance to US Open Cup second round

Update June 16: The Charleston Battery posted a 2-0 win over Regals FC in the first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Tuesday night and will take on Orlando City in the second round this Friday night.

The game will is set for 7:30 p.m. at Blackbaud Stadium. Tickets are on sale now.

First reporting: The first round of the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is set to take place tonight at Blackbaud Stadium (1990 Daniel Island Drive) between our own Charleston Battery and Regals FC.

The winner of this evening's game will go up against the victor of the Orlando City vs. ASC New Stars match on Tuesday, June 21st. If the Battery wins tonight's match, then you can plan on the June 21st game to be hosted at Blackbaud Stadium.

Other than glory, teams are setting their eyes on the prize money that's set aside for the victor of the tournament. The prize money includes: $100,000 for the champion, $50,000 for the runner-up, and $10,000 for each team that advances the furthest in the tournament from Division II, Division III, and amateur levels.
