The date has been set for the 777-mile Charleston to Bermuda sailboat race, held in honor of the deep cultural ties between Bermuda and Charleston.

On May 21st, the participating boats will take off from the Charleston Harbor and head toward Hamilton, Bermuda. Boats at least 30 feet in length can compete in five separate divisions: racing, cruising - spinnaker, cruising - non-spinnaker, double-handed or multi-hull.

Charleston and Bermuda share a rich maritime history and continue to strengthen their commercial and cultural connections. Started in 1997, this race promises to carry on the tradition that leads sailors from the cobblestone streets and picturesque waterfront of Charleston, South Carolina to the beautiful Atlantic paradise of Bermuda.

Registration for the 2011 Charleston Bermuda Race is now open.
