Junior Olympic runners travel to Myrtle Beach (Update: About 10,000 visitors)

Update December 11, 2011: According to Myrtle Beach spokesman Mark Kruea, the event brought an estimated 10,000 visitors over the weekend.

They say this is good for about $1.5 million in revenue in just a couple days. The Sun News has more details about the competition here.


First Report: Runners, ages seven to 18, will travel from 46 states to Myrtle Beach's Whispering Pines Golf Course this weekend to compete in the 2011 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships.

Between 2,500 and 3,000 athletes are expected to participate and opening ceremonies will take place on Friday, December 9 at 5 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.  Competitive events begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, at Whispering Pines.  You can see the full schedule of events on the USATF site here
