StormFest 2012 on Saturday

Horry County/Georgetown Emergency Management and the National Weather Service will host StormFest 2012 on Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Inlet Square Mall in Murrells Inlet.

This event is free and open to the public. This family-fun event, sponsored by Frank Entertainment and Inlet Square Mall, will feature storm and safety related displays/booths to include local emergency management offices, Horry County IT/GIS, American Red Cross, Safe Kids, SC Insurance, SC Safe Homes, the National Guard and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

Local meteorologists will also be featured at the event and will let people test their “on-air” weather skills with their green screens! The event will also feature a five foot tornado, a flood model and much more. 

Addtional displays will be located outside of Frank Entertainment and will feature a National Guard high ropes course, various apparatus from Surfside Fire Department, Georgetown Fire Department, Murrells Inlet-Garden City Rescue, the Horry County Animal Care Center adoption trailer, etc. 

Kid activities will be scattered throughout the mall to include a tornado bingo challenge, face painting, discount bowling, and much more. Kid craft activities will include water cycle bracelets, wind socks, wind spinners, hydro bracelets, etc. Free weather-related classes will also be feature during the event to include a spotter training course by the National Weather Service, a presentation by Horry/Georgetown Emergency Management officials concerning new hurricane changes, storm chaser Gerard Jebaily will share his amazing stories, and a presentation featuring your local meteorologists!
