TheDigitel Myrtle Beach

Update, 2/3/12: Tomorrow, Saturday February 4, marks the first Saturday of the month which means the folks at North Strand Helping Hand (NSHH) and Barefoot Church will be in Atlantic Beach helping those in need.

Aiming to help at least 200 people monthly, tomorrow's DreamFest kicks off at 1 p.m. Free lunch and other social services will be available. The Benefit Bank volunteers will be available to assist individuals and families with applying for benefits such as SNAP (food stamps) and Medicaid.

Each month NSHH and Barefoot Church put on DreamFest, and each month is a little different. You can read about last months activities below to get an idea of some of the things being offered.

If you know a family or individual in need, please pass this story along.

First Report, 1/9/12: Dream fest takes place the first Saturday of every month - even holidays - in Atlantic Beach and helps those in need all over the region.

In 2011 we were there New's Years Day and the 4th of July because, as one of our founders, Ron Causey says, "Hunger knows no holiday." Barefoot Church and North Strand Helping Hand partner to bring this event to anyone in need. We have folks coming from the south side of the beach, Loris, Longs, Little River, Mullins, Darlington, and several towns in North Carolina. Monthly, we have enough food to share with 200 people.

This month we offered the standard grocery items, but as an added treat, we had volunteers who donated their professional services and gave those in need hair cuts and manicures. Additionally there was a children's activity center with Boom-Boom and friends from Barefoot Church, and lunch was provided by the very caring folks from Duffy Street and Hot Diggity Diner.

The food is delivered from the Low Country Food Bank out of Charleston SC.  This month we helped 160 people in need. The event utilizes about 30 to 40 volunteers each month. In February we will have our three-year anniversary, so help us make it the best.
