Prescribed fire shields against many blazes

The State has a great piece up reflecting back on the Myrtle Beach blaze and how controlled burns by state officials saved much.

The paper notes that amid the charred forest there are still oases of lush green -- those areas were preventatively burned months ago.

But what really caught my eye was this part towards the end:

The DNR has wanted to burn several areas near two subdivisions between Myrtle Beach and Conway, but had not worked out an agreement before last week’s wildfire.

Perhaps they'll have less trouble in the future.

Be sure to read the whole thing.
