Midtown Bar and Grill on upper King gets a pair of thumbs up

In one of the oldest building on upper King Street, Midtown Bar and Grill seems to have pulled off not only a respectable renovation of the space but mustered up some respectable food and pricing to match.

Both Preview and the Charleston City Paper reviewed the spot this week generally giving kudos to the ambience and food (you just have to make sure your expectations are inline), and I think the City Paper may have nailed the spot best when they effectively called it "a rather nice dive bar."

Check out the City Paper's review here, and Preview's here.

Interestingly the boiled peanut hummus earned a shout out in each. The whole menu is available online.

One of the best things about this spot is the late-night take out from 2-3 a.m.

They're at 559 King Street in downtown Charleston. (843) 737-4284.
