Free Memory Screenings at Community Health Resource Fair

As part of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s (AFA) National Memory Screening Program, The ARK, Respite Care Charleston, Thrivent Financial, Hearing Care of Summerville and the Senior Directory will offer free confidential memory screenings on Tuesday, June 23. Screenings are noon to 5 p.m. at the Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1605 Harbor View Road, Charleston, SC 29412.  In addition Hearing Care of Summerville will be offering free hearing screening.

Qualified healthcare professionals will administer the memory screenings and provide educational materials about memory concerns, brain health and caregiving.  The face-to-face screenings consist of a series of questions and tasks, and takes about 10 minutes to administer.

Memory screenings are a significant first step toward finding out if a person may have a memory problem. Memory problems could be caused by Alzheimer’s disease or other medical conditions.   The results are not a diagnosis and does not replace consultation with a qualified physician or other healthcare professional. This community Memory Screening is registered with Alzheimer’s Foundation of America National Memory Screening Program.

Interested participants should call The ARK at 843-832-2357 to reserve their personal memory and or hearing screening appointment. Walk-ins are welcome.

Come early for your screening or stay later and take advantage of many senior community resources. Donations of canned goods to support Tri-County Family Ministries will be accepted.
