Update February 3, 2012: Now the trees have been turned in and chopped up, there's free mulch up for grabs while supplies last in both North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach.

Free mulch made from recycled Christmas trees and wreaths is now available for the taking at two locations in North Myrtle Beach – the parking lot directly across the street from the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center at 1030 Possum Trot Road, and the public parking lot on Main Street across from Duck’s Beach Club. Signs are posted at both parking lots, and the mulch is free for the public to pick up until the supply is depleted.

In Myrtle Beach, you can find Christmas tree mulch on Joe White Avenue behind Myrtle Waves Park.

First Report: Each year the Horry County Solid Waste Authority runs the "Grinding the Greens" campaign in an effort encourage those with real Christmas trees in their homes to recycle them into free yard mulch. available to the public later in the year.

Typically there are dates scheduled for Christmas tree curb-side pick-up in the city limits of Myrtle Beach.  A call to the Horry County Solid Waste Authority revealed those dates are not yet available, however I was told that anyone wanting to participate now should bring the tree they're disposing of to any of the Recycling and Convenience Centers in the county.  You can find the addresses, phone numbers, and a map of these locations on their website here.

You can keep up with the latest from the Horry County Solid Waste Authority by liking them on Facebook.
