Amphitheatre may be coming to Myrtle Beach Convention Center

A new amphitheatre may soon call the grounds of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center home thanks to the stipulations set forth by a $7 million grant to the City of Myrtle Beach from state government back in 2005.  But some ask if it's a true enhancement or simply a means to avoid having to pay the money back.

Few could argue that an amphitheatre would be a cool addition to entertainment offerings in the area, especially within walking distance to many popular hotels.  In fact, convention center leaders say there could be as many as 60 events in its first year.  But this editorial in the Sun News casts a bit of doubt that it will qualify as an ehancement, bumping the convention center complex up into “national and international convention and trade show center" status.

You can see a rendering of the proposed amphitheater in this WPDE story.
