As Charleston marks 150 years since the outbreak of the Civil War and the firing on Fort Sumter on April 12, 1861, with cannon fire and re-enactments, NPR has put together a nice collection of perspectives.
In a written and 13-minute streaming audio report they chat with a number of players from Charleston Mayor Joe Riley, to state Sen. Glenn McConnell, to re-enactors of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, to the director of Charleston's Old Slave Mart Museum.
It's a brief bit of history and a collection of thoughts on how folks view the Civil War today.
