Downtown arts group proposes city funding to help efforts
Visbal Sculpture
The Goddess of the Sea by Delaware sculptor Kristen Visbal. The Downtown Public Art Initiative would like to place a 12-foot version in Plyler Park near the boardwalk.
For over six years, the Downtown Redevelopment Corporation has planned to erect a 18-foot-tall statue in Plyler Park as a symbol for the City of Myrtle Beach. Now the group has settled on a less expensive 12-foot version and wants the city to help pay for the $250,000 project.
Lorena Anderson of The Sun News reported on the original statue plan in January with details on the sculptor and project. That's here. A new report reveals the modified plans along with details on a greater effort to bring art projects and installations to the downtown area. You can read more here.
