Local children's book project off to a great Kickstart (Update: Book available)

Update July 17, 2012: The author sent us a note to let everyone know the book is now available for purchase. Buy it on Amazon here.

Update June 12, 2012: With seven days to go the Bob The Ladybug KickStarter project has been successfully funded!

Bob The Ladybug is now sitting at $6,066.00 in funding and it still has a full week to get more backers. Even though a project gets fully funded on KickStarter you can still get in on the funding-action until the project hits its deadline.

So hop on over to KickStarter and support a local's children book, and read all about Bob below in our first report.

First Report May 26, 2012: Bob the Ladybug is a simple idea that seeks to help combat the ongoing problem of bullying by getting young children to understand and think about the concept of acceptance and diversity.

We briefly mentioned the Bob the Ladybug project in a previous story about local Kickstarter book projects.

Bob is the creation of Tommy Starling. According to the official website, Starling is a Pawleys Island resident where he lives with his husband and their young daughter. Starling's biography indicates that his alternative lifestyle and conservative family background gave him many life experiences which inspired the concept of Bob the Ladybug.

To raise funds to produce the book, Starling has taken to Kickstarter. Within days of launching the Kickstarter page, the project is very close to 50% of their $6,000 goal.  A big portion of that has come from pledges in the higher tiers. Kickstarter projects typically offer numerous pledge levels with escalating benefits. None of the project supporters have to actually pay their pledge unless the projects has met it's goal.

"Crowd funding" sites like Kickstarter have revolutionized the way innovators and entreprenuers can breathe life into their ideas. We often highlight local area projects for you to check out and consider supporting.
