While container shipping volume continues to rebound and a political battle is fought for federal dollars to deepen the Charleston Harbor, the Port of Charleston has announced major capital investments to the tune of $147 million dollars for projects like the former Navy base terminal and improved systems.
In all some $1.3 billion dollars is expected to be invested over the next 10 years.
ABC News 4 has a report on the more-common news angle (read that here) while Port Strategy offers up a larger narrative from a more industry insider perspective (read that here).
As a side note, investment in the long-discussed Jasper County port remains in the background.
