Charleston port chief: S.C. Shipping cargo must be doubled

There's no hiding it: While the shipping industry as a whole has been hurt in recent years, Charleston's competitive edge has been sliding even harder.
And so S.C. State Ports Authority CEO Jim Newsome has laid out a goal to double the cargo volume of South Carolina ports by 2030 — no small task.
The Charleston Regional Business Journal has a solid rundown on what's up; read it here.
And while a Jasper port would be struggling to get up and running by 2030, a lack of that topic in the vision for South Carolina is curious, but certainly not shocking given the authority's historic disinterest.
Now that the truth has been revealed we should only hope that they will get the strength to get out of it. There are so many strategies they could use to get surpass this situation and many of them would work if they are implemented based on thorough research. One of them could simply be the temperature controlled shipments since there's a growing demand for it.
