Expanded downtown valet service would cater to dinner crowds

Police Chief Greg Mullen, restaurant owners and valet company officials met yesterday to discuss the possibility of a six-month trial plan regarding valet parking in downtown Charleston.

According to Live 5 News's report, the plan is to replace metered parking spots both on the street and in parking garages with valet sports between 6 and 12 p.m. Why? To cater to the downtown dining crowd.

The proposed valet areas would be on King Street between John and Radcliffe streets, the corner of East Bay and Cone Street and on Broad Street.

We'll keep an eye on this to see if the valet idea actually pans out, but here's hoping the few spots left on the streets stay available to residents who actually need them.
